English abstract:	Steels resistant to high temperatures are being used in the construction of catalytic conversion units for heavy crude oils with highly oxidizing, sulfiding and fueling environments. There is currently a strong debate on the selection of steels for these applications, whether with austenitic steels or ferritic steels, the latter being conveniently selected for their adequate microstructure, their low carbon content and their balance between chromium and molybdenum content. The importance of these factors, both microstructural and compositional, which added to the enrichment of chemical elements from the gases produced and from the heavy crude oil itself, is greatly reflected in the quality of the protective layers formed that serve as both a thermal and physicochemical barrier. in the face of a highly aggressive environment in these crude catalytic conversion units. This paper discusses the characterization results of layers formed on an ASTM A-213 T92 (Fe-9Cr-0.5Mo) steel in atmospheres: H2S-N2-O2 and air between 100�C and 400�C. Atomic force microscopy techniques in mechanical and electrical modes, Confocal Raman Spectroscopy, Raman thermometry, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Energy Dispersive X-rays, were used to compare and discuss the obtained results. The comparisons focused on the relatively higher structural stability of the layers obtained by sulfidation than those obtained by oxidation.
Spanish abstract:	Aceros resistentes a temperaturas elevadas est�n siendo usados en la construcci�n de unidades de conversi�n catal�tica de crudos pesados con ambientes altamente oxidantes, sulfidantes y carburantes. Existe actualmente un fuerte debate en la selecci�n de aceros para estas aplicaciones, ya sea con aceros austen�ticos o aceros ferr�ticos, siendo estos �ltimos convenientemente seleccionados por su adecuada microestructura, su bajo contenido de carbono y su balance entre el contenido de cromo y de molibdeno. La importancia de estos factores, tanto microestructurales como de composici�n, que sumado al enriquecimiento de elementos qu�micos provenientes de los gases producidos y del mismo crudo pesado, se refleja enormemente en la calidad de las capas de protecci�n formada que sirven de barrera tanto t�rmica como fisicoqu�mica ante un ambiente altamente agresivo en estas unidades de conversi�n catal�tica de crudo. En este trabajo se discuten los resultados de caracterizaci�n de capas formadas sobre un acero ASTM A-213 T92 (Fe-9Cr-0.5Mo) en atm�sferas: H2S-N2-O2 y aire entre 100�C a 400�C. T�cnicas de microscop�a de fuerza at�mica en los modos mec�nicos y el�ctricos, Espectroscop�a Confocal Raman, termometr�a Raman, Microscop�a Electr�nica de Barrido y Energ�a Dispersiva de Rayos X, fueron empleadas para comparar y discutir los resultados obtenidos. Las comparaciones se enfocaron en la relativamente mayor estabilidad estructural de las capas obtenidas por sulfidaci�n que las obtenidas por oxidaci�n.
