English abstract:	The disposal of waste in sanitary landfills and in the open sky is generating serious problems at the national level, the accumulation limit of the main municipal garbage dumps has collapsed, and for this reason, high-impact environmental crises have been generated, in addition to health and economic crises, The main capital cities have had to restructure their collection and disposal system due to the provisional closures, in some cases permanent, of the garbage dumps, but in most cases the solution is the same, to enable another disposal site to begin the accumulation of waste and repeat the bad process that has been carried out. The methods currently used in the attempt to obtain energy from this waste focus solely on the release of methane, generated through natural biodigestion, in some cases with chemical disintegration procedures, processes that accelerate its decomposition, but with the limitation that It is only carried out in plants suitable for this purpose, and with the same need for considerable spaces for installations. In municipal landfills, the adjustments made to contain contamination by liquid decomposition are artificial pools that in some cases prevent leachate from reaching the bedrock and filtering into the groundwater channels (aquifers), in most cases they are provisional solutions and with a very short duration in time, which is why it does not represent stability for the project, a significant measure in matters of contamination, and a guarantee of safety in matters of public health. Therefore, it is necessary to transform this waste into new products as part of a sustainable circular economy for the country. One of the proposed solutions is the conversion of this matter into energy, which is aligned with the emblematic mission of making an energy transition towards non-fossil fuels. Therefore, this work addresses the thermo-economic analysis of the use of RSU for power generation. This work proposes the production of char pellets from torrefied MSW. An energy balance is carried out to estimate the dimensions and capacity of the collection and transformation plant based on the availability of waste. The MSW processing into char-like pellets was performed using a muffle furnace (Terrigeno, model D8) and a pelletizer (Oil division Colombia, model 125). First, the sample of 9�1 g was introduced in open Petri plates. Then, to evaporate the moisture, the sample was heated from 26�2 to 106 �C at a heating rate of 10 �C/min, and left for 40 min at the drying temperature. Afterward, for torrefaction, the Petri plates were closed and sealed to avoid oxidation and obtain a quasi-inert atmosphere, and the temperature was increased to 270 �C and left 50 min as residence time. Also, in this stage, the remaining moisture was removed, increased energy density, and obtained the highest possible calorific value from the charcoal present in the MSW. Thus, charcoal pellets from MSW are presented as an important alternative to taking into account energy generation.
Spanish abstract:	La disposici�n de residuos en rellenos sanitarios y a cielo abierto est� generando graves problemas a nivel nacional, el tope de acumulaci�n de los principales basureros municipales ha colapsado, y por esto, se han generado crisis ambientales de alto impacto, adem�s de crisis sanitarias y econ�micas, las principales ciudades capitales han tenido que reestructurar su sistema de recolecci�n y disposici�n por los cierres provisionales, en algunos casos permanentes de los basureros, pero en la mayor�a de los casos la soluci�n es la misma, habilitar otro sitio de disposici�n para iniciar la acumulaci�n de residuos y repetir nuevamente el mal proceso que se ha venido realizando Los m�todos utilizados actualmente en el intento por obtener energ�a a partir de estos residuos se centran �nicamente en la liberaci�n de metano, generado mediante biodigesti�n natural, en algunos casos con procedimientos de desintegraci�n qu�mica, procesos que aceleran su descomposici�n, pero con la limitante de que solo se realiza en plantas adecuadas para este prop�sito, y con la misma necesidad de espacios considerables para las instalaciones. En los basureros municipales, las adecuaciones realizadas para contener la contaminaci�n por descomposici�n l�quida son piscinas artificiales que evitan en algunos casos que los lixiviados lleguen al lecho rocoso y se filtren hacia los canales de agua subterr�nea (acu�feros), en la mayor�a de los casos son soluciones provisionales y con una duraci�n muy corta en el tiempo, por lo cual no representa una estabilidad para el proyecto, una medida significativa en temas de contaminaci�n, y una garant�a de seguridad en temas de salud p�blica. Por lo anterior, se hace necesaria una transformaci�n de estos residuos en nuevos productos como parte de una econom�a circular sostenible para el pa�s. Una de las soluciones propuestas es la conversi�n de esta materia en energ�a, lo cual se alinea con la misi�n emblem�tica de hacer una transici�n energ�tica hacia combustibles no f�siles. Por lo tanto, Este trabajo aborda el an�lisis termo-econ�mico del aprovechamiento de los RSU para la generaci�n de energ�a. Este trabajo plantea la producci�n de pellets de carb�n a partir de RSU torrefactados. Se realiza un balance energ�tico que estima las dimensiones y la capacidad de la planta de acopio y transformaci�n, en funci�n de la disponibilidad de residuos. El proceso de transformar RSU en pellets de carb�n se realiz� utilizando un horno mufla (Terrigeno, modelo D8) y una peletizadora (Divisi�n de Petr�leo Colombia, modelo 125). Primero se introdujo la muestra de 9�1 g en cajas Petri abiertas. Luego, para evaporar la humedad, la muestra se calent� de 26�2 a 106 �C a una velocidad de calentamiento de 10 �C/min, y se dej� durante 40 min a la temperatura de secado. Posteriormente, para la torrefacci�n, las placas de Petri se cerraron y sellaron para evitar la oxidaci�n y obtener una atm�sfera cuasi-inerte, y se aument� la temperatura a 270 �C y se dej� 50 min como tiempo de residencia. Adem�s, en esta etapa se elimin� la humedad remanente, se increment� la densidad energ�tica y se obtuvo el mayor poder calor�fico posible del carb�n vegetal presente en los RSU. As�, los pellets de carb�n vegetal a partir de RSU se presentan como una importante alternativa a tener en cuenta en la generaci�n de energ�a.
