English title:	MUTUAL INFORMATION FOR PREDICTION OF RELEVANT PARAMETERS IN THE PEROVSKITE SOLAR�CELL�SYNTHESIS
Spanish title:	PREDICCI�N DE PAR�METROS RELEVANTES DE S�NTESIS EN CELDAS SOLARES DE PEROVSKITAS MEDIANTE MEDIDAS DE INFORMACI�N�MUTUA
English abstract:	Learning about those most relevant descriptors describing the synthesis of Perovskite solar cells could have a significant impact on improving their efficiency. Having this information could reduce time and resources during the synthesis procedure because it would permit to material scientists to focus on those most influential variables. Machine learning techniques (ML) can be used for this purpose. In particular, there are two approaches: a) using feature subset selection techniques and, b) using statistical association measures. In the first case, the selected variables and the relevance measure they provide depends on the kind of ML model used. That is, the result depends on the type and complexity of the selected model among those possibilities offered by the ML field. By contrast, statistical association measures provide a single result because they do not incorporate the use of particular models in their procedures, thus, their results are independent of the model. Among statistical association measures, Pearson correlation coefficient and rank correlation measures such as Kendall's and Spearman's coefficients can be mentioned. Regarding Pearson, it is assumed that the relationship between the involved random variables is linear, which is rare, taking into account the complexity of this kind of phenomena. On the other hand, rank correlation measures work for nonlinear relationships, but only if the underlying function of the phenomenon is monotonic increasing or decreasing. By contrast, the mutual information (MI) measure does not suffer from these�drawbacks. In present work, we propose to use mutual information measure in order to quantify the amount of information contained in descriptor variables about synthesis process, in respect to perovskite solar cells performance parameters. The performance measures correspond to open-circuit voltage (Voc), Short Circuit Current Density (Jsc), Fill Factor (FF), and Power Conversion Efficiency (PCE). The mutual information measure (which quantifies the information that a descriptor contributes to the inference of performance parameter) is estimated by using a data set composed of more than 40,000 experimental observations about Perovskite cells. In present work, we propose to use mutual information measure in order to quantify the amount of information contained in descriptor variables about synthesis, in respect to Perovskite solar cells performance parameters. The performance measures correspond to open-circuit voltage (Voc), Short Circuit Current Density (Jsc), Fill Factor (FF), and Power Conversion Efficiency (PCE). The mutual information measure (which quantifies the information that a descriptor contributes to the inference of performance parameter) is estimated by using a data set composed of more than 40,000 experimental observations about Perovskite cells. As a result, it was found that those variables that could contribute the most to PCE prediction are: i) concentrations of elements used to form the perovskite thin film; ii) the materials used to form the back contact and the hole transport layer (HTL); and, iii) Perovskite�s thickness. Each of these variables provides between 1.2 bits and 1.8 bits of information. Taking into account that the amount of information corresponding to PCE resulted in 4.33 bits, it can be infered that the effect of these variables is�considerable.
Spanish abstract:	Saber cu�les son aquellas variables de mayor relevancia durante el proceso de s�ntesis de celdas solares de perovskita podr�a tener un impacto significativo en la mejora de eficiencia de las mismas. Con esta informaci�n se puede ahorrar tiempo y recursos durante la s�ntesis al permitir que el cient�fico de materiales pueda actuar sobre aquellas variables que m�s influyen en los par�metros de desempe�o. Para ello se pueden utilizar t�cnicas de Aprendizaje Autom�tico (Machine Learning, ML). En particular se tienen dos enfoques: a) utilizando t�cnicas de selecci�n de subconjuntos de caracter�sticas y b) usando medidas de asociaci�n estad�stica. En el primer caso, las variables seleccionadas y la medida de relevancia que estas entregan dependen del tipo de modelo ML utilizado. Es decir, el resultado es dependiente del tipo y complejidad del modelo dentro del abanico de posibilidades que el �rea de ML ofrece. En contraste, las medidas de asociaci�n estad�stica entregan un �nico resultado debido a que no incorporan el uso de modelos particulares en sus procedimientos. Sus resultados son independientes del modelo. Dentro de estas medidas de asociaci�n estad�stica se pueden mencionar el coeficiente de correlaci�n de Pearson y las medidas de correlaci�n por rangos de Kendall y Spearman. En el caso de Pearson, se asume que la relaci�n entre las variables aleatorias involucradas es de tipo lineal, lo que es poco frecuente en problemas del grado de complejidad del �rea de la ciencia de materiales. De otra parte, las medidas de correlaci�n por rangos funciona para fen�menos no-lineales, pero solo si la funci�n subyacente del fen�meno es de tipo mon�tona creciente � decreciente; sin embargo, esta es una informaci�n que no se tiene. En contraste a las anteriores medidas, se tiene la medida de informaci�n mutua (Mutual Information, MI), la cual no adolece de restricciones de linealidad y monotonicidad. En el presente trabajo se plantea utilizar la medida de informaci�n mutua a fin de cuantificar la cantidad de informaci�n contenida en las variables descriptoras del proceso de s�ntesis respecto a par�metros de desempe�o de celdas solares de perovskita. Las medidas de desempe�o corresponden al voltaje de circuito abierto (Voc), Densidad de Corriente de Corto Circuito (Jsc), Factor de llenado (FF) y eficiencia de conversi�n de potencia (PCE). La medida de informaci�n mutua (cantidad de informaci�n que aporta el descriptor respecto al par�metro de desempe�o) se estima a partir de un conjunto de datos compuestos por m�s de 40mil observaciones experimentales de celdas de perovskita. A modo de resultado se encontr� que las variables que aportan mayor informaci�n al PCE son las concentraciones de los elementos utilizados para formar la pel�cula delgada de perovskita. Posteriormente, aparecen los materiales que se usan para el contacto posterior y la capa transportadora de huecos (HTL). Seguidamente est� el espesor de la capa de Perovskita. Cada una de estas variables aporta entre 1.2 bits y 1.8 bits de informaci�n. Teniendo en cuenta que el valor de cantidad de informaci�n correspondiente al PCE di� como resultado 4.33 bits, entonces se deduce que el efecto de estas varibles sobre el PCE es relativamente importante.
