English title:	SIMULATION OF ROBOTS SWARM AGGREGATION USING THE BEECLUST METHOD
Spanish title:	SIMULACI�N DEL AGRUPAMIENTO DE UN ENJAMBRE DE ROBOTS CON EL M�TODO BEECLUST
English abstract:	La rob�tica de enjambres estudia el comportamiento de un grupo de robots homog�neos que colaboran para alcanzar un objetivo com�n. El desarrollo de esta �rea de la rob�tica ha abierto la posibilidad de resolver diferentes problemas de ingenier�a, tales como, monitoreo de condiciones ambientales, reconocimiento de espacios, operaciones de b�squeda y rescate, entre otros. El dise�o del controlador es uno de los principales desaf�os, debido a que se debe definir el comportamiento individual de cada robot para lograr realizar la tarea a nivel de enjambre. Se han estudiado las caracter�sticas y propiedades de organismos vivos que presentan comportamiento de enjambre con el fin de abordar el desaf�o del dise�o del controlador, es decir, definir el comportamiento individual de cada robot para lograr realizar la tarea a nivel de enjambre. Estos estudios han identificado comportamientos fundamentales, como la agregaci�n, el cual puede ser considerado como un comportamiento esencial del enjambre debido a la frecuencia con la que aparece este comportamiento y debido a que se ha determinado que la agregaci�n es un paso preliminar para el funcionamiento adecuado de otros comportamientos de enjambre. Este proyecto presenta un simulador desarrollado en Matlab con el prop�sito de estudiar c�mo la agregaci�n de robots puede ser guiada por las caracter�sticas del entorno, mediante el uso del algoritmo Beeclust. El simulador permite estudiar el proceso de agregaci�n del enjambre y los factores que afectan su eficiencia. Se presentan resultados de simulaciones realizadas en diferentes escenarios ambientales y con diferentes caracter�sticas del enjambre, as� como dos variantes del algoritmo original que buscan mejorar su eficiencia en la agregaci�n. En algunos casos, se comparan los resultados obtenidos con los de otros trabajos similares.
Spanish abstract:	Swarm robotics studies a group behavior of homogeneous robots collaborating to achieve a common goal. The development of this robotics area has opened up the possibility of solving various engineering problems, such as environmental monitoring, area recognition, and search & rescue operations. The controller design is the main challenge since each robot's behavior must be defined to achieve the task at the swarm level. The characteristics and properties of living organisms that exhibit swarm behavior have been studied to address the controller design challenge, thus, to define the individual behavior of each robot to achieve the task at the swarm level. These studies have identified fundamental behaviors, such as aggregation, which can be considered an essential behavior of the swarm due to the frequency with which this behavior appears and because it has been determined that aggregation is a preliminary step for the proper functioning of other swarm behaviors. This work presents a simulator developed in Matlab to study how the characteristics of the environment can guide the robot's aggregation through the Beeclust algorithm. The simulator allows the study of the swarm aggregation process and the factors that affect its efficiency. Simulation results are presented for different environmental scenarios and with different characteristics of the swarm, as well as two variants of the original algorithm that seek to improve its efficiency in aggregation. In some cases, the results are compared with those of similar works.
