English abstract:	The emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) is once of the greatest environmental challenges of our era, since its accumulation in the atmosphere is one of the main causes of climate change. Globally, China is the largest producer of CO2 emissions per year with 11,472 million tons (Mt), followed by the United States with 5,007 Mt; India with 2,709 Mt and Russia with 1,755 Mt; in this list Colombia ranks 43rd in annual CO2 emissions and fourth in Latin America with 91.7 Mt (Ritchie, 2021). The energy sector is the largest polluter in the world (76%), followed by agriculture including livestock (12%) and the chemical industry (5.9%), which results in the release of large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere, generating global impacts such as: the generation of greenhouse gases, acidification of the oceans and changes in biodiversity, impacting the environment, the economy and society in general, this is why it is important to take measures to reduce CO2 emissions and mitigate these impacts to ensure a sustainable future (Emissions by source: Which sectors generate the most emissions?, n.d.). To achieve efficient CO2 capture, support materials with large surface area and porosity are needed, these supports are functionalized with amines which are molecules derived from ammonia in which part of the hydrogen is replaced by a carbonate grouping as a consequence of the acid-base reaction of the adsorbate with the amino groups, therefore, the functionalized materials possess the properties of both components (an amine and a support). In the last decade, multiple combinations of support and adsorbent materials have been used obtaining diverse results in CO2 adsorption efficiency, as in a study conducted by Bouhadjar Boukoussa in 2019 where he uses mesoporous silica functionalized with triamine achieving an adsorption capacity of 3.2 mmol/g; another study by James C. Fisher in 2009 shows how beta zeolite functionalized with TEPA achieves an adsorption capacity of 2.9 mmol/g and finally, Yizhu Kuang in 2019 uses polyacrylonitrile fibers functionalized with TETA achieving an adsorption capacity of 5.44 mmol/g. On the other hand, carbon-based materials doped with Nitrogen are the ones that have shown the best efficiency with respect to CO2 adsorption, as shown in the study conducted by Jian-Cheng Geng in 2019 where he used porous carbons doped with Nitrogen (NPC) achieving an adsorption capacity of 6.9 mmol/g, which is why in this study we seek to evaluate a graphene oxide (GO) functionalized with dodecylamine (GO@DDA). GO is a monomolecular layer of graphite oxide, whose lamellar structure consists mainly of carbons with bonds that change hybridization from sp2 to sp3 by the formation of covalent bonds with oxygen atoms coming from carbonyl, carboxyl, hydroxyl and epoxide functional groups, formed during the oxidation process of graphite (Dimiev & Tour, 2014) and is widely used due to its surface area, size, stability in aqueous solutions, resistance to thermal degradation and tensile strength, on the other hand DDA is a primary amine bonded to a long chain of twelve carbons, it is highly soluble in organic solvents of low polarity or totally apolar, with high thermal stability and great capacity of absorption of solids in suspension. In this work a synthesis route was carried out where GO was obtained by the modified Hummers method and functionalized with DDA by amidation and nucleophilic substitution reactions, for this an aqueous dispersion of GO was taken which was placed in a reflux assembly at 380 rpm and 60�C; on the other hand, a solution of 1.5 g of DDA in ethanol was prepared at room temperature with constant agitation. Once the temperature of the GO solution reached 60�C, 10 ml of the DDA solution was added every 10 minutes and the conditions were maintained for a reaction time of 24 hours. Then the obtained material was frozen and lyophilized in order to have the material in solid form for its later characterization. The material obtained was characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy which showed bands of the functional groups associated with GO and DDA; to determine the particle size distribution and stability of the material in solution, the dynamic light scattering (DLS) technique was used; Additionally, a thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was performed to show the physical and chemical properties of the material as a function of temperature and finally, adsorption isotherms were performed to establish the adsorption capacity of CO2 ; with the results obtained from this research it was possible to establish GO@DDA as a material with a promising potential for the capture of CO2.
Spanish abstract:	La emisi�n de di�xido de carbono (CO2) es uno de los mayores desaf�os ambientales de nuestra era, debido a que su acumulaci�n en la atm�sfera es una de las principales causas del cambio clim�tico. A nivel global, China es el mayor productor de emisiones de CO2 al a�o con 11.472 millones de toneladas (Mt), seguido por Estados Unidos con 5.007 Mt; India con 2.709 Mt y Rusia con 1.755 Mt; en este listado Colombia ocupa el puesto 43 en emisiones anuales de CO2 y el cuarto en Am�rica Latina con 91.7 Mt (Ritchie, 2021). El sector energ�tico es el mayor contaminante en el mundo (76%), seguido por la agricultura incluyendo la ganader�a (12%) y la industria de productos qu�micos (5,9%) esto se traduce en la liberaci�n de grandes cantidades de CO2 a la atmosfera lo que genera impactos de car�cter global como: la generaci�n de gases de efecto invernadero, la acidificaci�n de los oc�anos y cambios en la biodiversidad, impactando en el medio ambiente, la econom�a y la sociedad en general, por esto es importante tomar medidas para reducir las emisiones de CO2 y mitigar estos impactos para garantizar un futuro sostenible (Emisiones por fuente: �Qu� sectores generan m�s emisiones?, s. f.). Para lograr una captura de CO2 eficiente se necesitan materiales de soporte que posean gran �rea superficial y porosidad, estos soportes se funcionalizan con aminas que son mol�culas derivadas del amoniaco en las que parte del hidr�geno se reemplaza por un agrupamiento carbonado como consecuencia de la reacci�n acido�base del adsorbato con los grupos amino, por tanto, los materiales funcionalizados poseen las propiedades de ambos componentes (una amina y un soporte). En la �ltima d�cada se han utilizado m�ltiples combinaciones de materiales de soporte y absorbentes obteniendo diversos resultados en la eficiencia de adsorci�n de CO2, como en un estudio realizado por Bouhadjar Boukoussa en el a�o 2019 donde utiliza silice mesoporoso funcionalizado con triamina logrando una capacidad de adsorci�n de 3.2 mmol/g; otro estudio realizado por James C. Fisher en el a�o 2009 muestra como la zeolita beta funcionalizada con TEPA logra una capacidad de adsorci�n de 2.9 mmol/g y por �ltimo, Yizhu Kuang en el a�o 2019 utiliza fibras de poliacrilonitrilo funcionalizados con TETA logrando una capacidad de adsorci�n de 5.44 mmol/g. Por otro lado, los materiales con base carb�n dopados con Nitr�geno son los que mejor eficiencia han mostrado respecto a la adsorci�n de CO2, como se muestra en el estudio realizado por Jian-Cheng Geng en el a�o 2019 donde utilizo carbones porosos dopados con Nitr�geno (NPC) logrando una capacidad de adsorci�n de 6.9 mmol/g, es por esto que en este estudio se busca evaluar un �xido de grafeno (GO) funcionalizado con dodecilamina (GO@DDA). El GO es una capa monomolecular de �xido de grafito, cuya estructura laminar est� conformada principalmente por carbonos con enlaces que cambian de hibridaci�n de sp2 a sp3 por la formaci�n de enlaces covalentes con �tomos de ox�geno provenientes de grupos funcionales carbonilo, carboxilo, hidroxilo y ep�xido, formados durante el proceso de oxidaci�n del grafito (Dimiev & Tour, 2014) y es ampliamente usado debido a su �rea superficial, su tama�o, su estabilidad en soluciones acuosas, su resistencia a la degradaci�n t�rmica y a la tracci�n, por otro lado la DDA es una amina primaria unida a una larga cadena de doce carbonos, es altamente soluble en solventes org�nicos de baja polaridad o totalmente apolares, con alta estabilidad t�rmica y gran capacidad de absorci�n de solidos en suspensi�n. En este trabajo se llev� a cabo una ruta de s�ntesis donde se obtuvo GO por el m�todo Hummers modificado y se funcionaliz� con DDA mediante reacciones de amidaci�n y sustituci�n nucleof�lica, para esto se tom� una dispersi�n acuosa de GO la cual se situ� en un montaje de reflujo a 380 rpm y 60�C; por otra parte, se prepar� una soluci�n de 1,5 g de DDA en etanol a temperatura ambiente con agitaci�n constante. Una vez la temperatura de la soluci�n de GO lleg� a 60�C se adicion� cada 10 minutos, 10 ml de la soluci�n de DDA y se mantuvieron las condiciones durante un tiempo de reacci�n de 24 horas. Luego el material obtenido se congel� y liofiliz� con el fin de tener el material en forma s�lida para su posterior caracterizaci�n. El material obtenido se caracteriz� por espectroscop�a FT-IR donde se mostraron bandas de los grupos funcionales asociados al GO y a la DDA; para determinar la distribuci�n del tama�o de part�cula y estabilidad del material en soluci�n se utiliz� la t�cnica de dispersi�n din�mica de luz (DLS) ; adicionalmente se realiz� un an�lisis Termogravim�trico (TGA) que mostro las propiedades f�sicas y qu�micas del material en funci�n de la temperatura y por �ltimo, se realizaron isotermas de adsorci�n para establecer la capacidad de adsorci�n de CO2; con los resultados obtenidos se logr� establecer el GO@DDA como un material con un potencial prometedor para la captura de CO2.
