English title:	Thermal distribution during friction stir welding of polymers using the finite elements method.

English abstract:	Friction stir welding (FSW) is a solid-state joining process that uses a rotating tool formed by a pin that applies pressure to the surface of the workpiece, generates heat through friction, and leads to the plasticization of the materials. FSW has been well received due to its effectiveness in joining various types of materials with poor weldability and producing high-quality joints without melting the materials, however, little numerical research has been developed to improve the process and its implementation in thermoplastics. In this study, a three-dimensional (3-D) finite element (FE) model of FSW in the thermoplastic polymer polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) was developed using ABAQUS software, making use of the Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian Coupled (CEL) strategy, the Johnson-Cook law of materials, and the Coulomb law for friction. The parameters of feed rate and rotational speed of the tool were modified, being these the main variables of the FSW. Temperature distributions were obtained for the different configurations, which allowed us to analyze and identify the thermal affectation zones of the process. The data used in the simulation are data obtained from the bibliography.
Spanish abstract:	La soldadura por fricci�n agitaci�n (SFA) es un proceso de uni�n en estado s�lido que utiliza una herramienta giratoria formada por un pasador que aplica una presi�n en la superficie de la pieza de trabajo, genera calor a trav�s de fricci�n y conduce a la plastificaci�n de los materiales. La SFA ha tenido gran acogida debido a su eficacia para unir diversos tipos de materiales con poca soldabilidad, produciendo uniones de alta calidad sin fundir los materiales, sin embargo, se han desarrollado pocas investigaciones num�ricas para mejorar el proceso y su implementaci�n en termopl�sticos. En este estudio se desarroll� un modelo tridimensional (3-D) de elementos finitos (EF) de SFA en el pol�mero termopl�stico poli metacrilato de metilo (PMMA) utilizando el software ABAQUS, haciendo de la estrategia de Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL), la ley de materiales Johnson-Cook, y la ley de Coulomb para fricci�n. Se modificaron los par�metros de velocidad de avance y velocidad de rotaci�n de la herramienta, siendo estas las variables principales de la SFA. Se obtuvieron las distribuciones de temperatura para las diferentes configuraciones, que permitieron analizar e identificar las zonas de afectaci�n t�rmica del proceso. Los datos usados en la simulaci�n son datos obtenidos de la bibliograf�a.
