English title:	Topology optimization and additive manufacturing of a McPherson suspension control arm for a combustion vehicle modified to work with an electric motor

English abstract:	The vehicle suspension system aims to transmit road-induced loads to the vehicle body in a controlled manner. A critical component of this system is the control arm, which maintains alignment between the wheel and the body, preventing irregular wheel movements. This study focuses on the topology optimization and additive manufacturing of the front control arm for a sedan vehicle converted from a combustion engine to an electric motor, resulting in a changed weight distribution. A finite element model of the McPherson suspension system was developed to determine the loads transmitted to the control arm under two loading conditions. The control arm was then analyzed in isolation to assess the resulting stresses and deformations, which were 119 MPa and 19 MPa, respectively. An oversized control arm model was subsequently created for topology optimization using a nylon matrix with fiberglass reinforcement. The optimized model exhibited equivalent stresses of 38 MPa and 12 MPa under the same conditions. A demonstration prototype of the optimized control arm was fabricated using additive manufacturing, achieving a weight of 230 g, representing a 79% reduction compared to the original model.
Spanish abstract:	El sistema de suspensi�n del veh�culo tiene como objetivo transmitir las cargas inducidas por la carretera al cuerpo del veh�culo de manera controlada. Un componente cr�tico de este sistema es el brazo de control, que mantiene la alineaci�n entre la rueda y el cuerpo, evitando movimientos irregulares de la rueda. Este estudio se centra en la optimizaci�n topol�gica y la fabricaci�n aditiva del brazo de control delantero para un veh�culo sed�n convertido de motor de combusti�n a motor el�ctrico, lo que resulta en un cambio en la distribuci�n del peso. Se desarroll� un modelo de elementos finitos del sistema de suspensi�n McPherson para determinar las cargas transmitidas al brazo de control bajo dos condiciones de carga. El brazo de control se analiz� de manera aislada para evaluar las tensiones resultantes, que fueron de 119 MPa y 19 MPa, respectivamente. Luego, se cre� un modelo sobredimensionado del brazo de control utilizando optimizaci�n topol�gica y una matriz de nylon con refuerzo de fibra de vidrio. El modelo optimizado mostr� tensiones equivalentes de 38 MPa y 12 MPa bajo las mismas condiciones. Se fabric� un prototipo del brazo de control optimizado utilizando fabricaci�n aditiva, logrando un peso de 230 g, lo que representa una reducci�n del 79% en comparaci�n con el modelo original.
