English title:	Technological applications of dielectric barrier discharges
Spanish title:	Aplicaciones tecnol?gicas de las descargas de barrera diel?ctricas
English abstract:	Dielectric barrier discharges have an increasing number of technological applications every day, not only because of the ease of their control but also because of the wide range of pressures at which they can be operated, including at atmospheric pressure. The devices to operate dielectric barrier discharges are easy to acquire and cheap; with dielectric barrier discharges, surface treatments of different materials can be performed, from deposition to ion implantation. Likewise, it can be used for stripping or cleaning surfaces. Among the most widely used applications is ozone generation for water treatment. Among the studies carried out by researchers is the effect of the surface roughness of the substrates on surface treatment processes, specifically on the nitriding of carbon steels. It has been found that depending on the type of finish or roughness of the samples to be treated, there is greater homogeneity of the profiles in the case of ion implantation and better adhesion in the case of deposits. Furthermore, nitriding improves the corrosion resistance of carbon steels and increases the hardness of the surfaces, i.e. improves the tribological properties of these materials.
Spanish abstract:	Las descargas de barrera dielectrica (DBD), tienen cada d?a un mayor n?mero de aplicaciones tecnol?gicas, no solo por la facilidad de su control, sino por el amplio rango de presiones a las cuales se pueden operar, inclusive a presi?n atmosf?rica. Los dispositivos para operar las descargas de barrera dielectrica son de f?cil adquisici?n y de muy bajo costo; con las descargas descargas de barrera dielectrica se pueden realizar tratamientos superficiales de diferentes materiales desde deposici?n hasta la implantaci?n de iones. De igual manera se puede utilizar para el decapado o limpieza de superficies. Dentro de las aplicaciones de mayor uso est? la generaci?n de ozono para el tratamiento de aguas. Dentro de los estudios realizados por los investigadores est? el de los efectos de la rugosidad de la superficie de los substratos sobre los procesos de tratamiento superficial, especificamente sobre la nitruraci?n de aceros al carbon. Se ha encontrado que dependiendo del tipo de terminaci?n o rugosidad de las muestras a tratar se da una mayor homogeneidad de los perfiles, en el caso de la implantaci?n de iones; y una mejor adherencia en el caso de deposiciones. Por otra parte, con la nitruraci?n se mejora la resistencia a la corrosi?n de los aceros al carb?n y de igual manera se consigue un aumento de la dureza de las superficies, es decir se mejoran las propiedades tribol?gicas de dichos materiales.
