English title:	Analysis of the mechanical behavior and oxidation resistance of thermal barrier coatings exposed to high temperature oxidation
Spanish title:	An�lisis del comportamiento mec�nico y resistencia a la oxidaci�n de recubrimientos de barrera t�rmica expuestos a oxidaci�n a alta temperatura
English abstract:	Within the framework of my participation in the Materials Science, Engineering, and Nanotechnology Researchers Network, I am presenting my research interest as the Analysis of the mechanical behavior and oxidation resistance of thermal barrier coatings exposed to oxidation at high temperatures to improve performance in applications. with extreme environments such as the aeronautical sector. This is based on my experience with processing, characterization, densification, mechanical behavior, and oxidation studies of ceramic coatings manufactured mainly by atmospheric plasma thermospray. Thermal barrier coatings are a highly advanced technology applied to metal surfaces in gas turbines operating at elevated temperatures. These coatings can allow for higher operating temperatures and limit thermal exposure of structural components, thereby extending part life. However, thermal barrier coating failures can occur in many ways depending on the combination of materials and techniques used to manufacture the thermal barrier coating system and the service conditions. In recent years, the durability of thermal barrier coatings has provided the driving force and motivation for research and development. My particular interest is understanding the underlying degradation and failure mechanisms of thermal barrier coatings used for gas turbines at higher operating temperatures to further evaluate and improve the durability and reliability of thermal barrier coatings.
Spanish abstract:	En el marco de mi participaci�n en la Red de Investigadores de Ciencia, Ingenier�a y Nanotecnolog�a de Materiales estoy presentando como mi l�nea de investigaci�n de inter�s del an�lisis del comportamiento mec�nico y resistencia a la oxidaci�n de recubrimientos de barrera t�rmica expuestos a oxidaci�n a alta temperatura, con el fin de mejorar el rendimiento en aplicaciones con ambientes extremos como el sector aeron�utico. Esto es con base en mi experiencia con estudios de procesamiento, caracterizaci�n, densificaci�n, comportamiento mec�nico y oxidaci�n de recubrimientos cer�micos, fabricados principalmente por termorrociados por plasma atmosf�rico. Los recubrimientos de barrera t�rmica son una tecnolog�a muy avanzada que se aplica a superficies met�licas en turbinas de gas que funcionan a temperaturas elevadas. Estos recubrimientos pueden permitir temperaturas de funcionamiento m�s altas y limitar la exposici�n t�rmica de los componentes estructurales y as� extender la vida �til de la pieza. Sin embargo, dependiendo de la combinaci�n de materiales y t�cnicas empleadas para fabricar el sistema recubrimientos de barrera t�rmica y las condiciones de servicio, las fallas del recubrimientos de barrera t�rmica pueden ocurrir de muchas maneras. En los �ltimos a�os, la durabilidad de los recubrimientos de barrera t�rmica ha proporcionado la fuerza impulsora y la motivaci�n para la investigaci�n y el desarrollo. Mi inter�s particular es comprender los mecanismos subyacentes de degradaci�n y falla de los recubrimientos de barrera t�rmica utilizados para turbinas de gas en temperaturas de funcionamiento m�s altas para evaluar y mejorar a�n m�s la durabilidad y confiabilidad de los recubrimientos de barrera t�rmica.
